Quote

"The five great elements, false ego, intelligence, the unmanifested, the ten senses and the mind, the five sense objects, desire, hatred, happiness, distress, the aggregate, the life symptoms, and convictions – all these are considered, in summary, to be the field of activities and its interactions."Bhagavad Gita, 13.6-7

Direct Meaning

This explains the different parts that make up the material experience of life, including the body, senses, mind, intelligence, emotions, desires, and physical elements. Together, these form the “field of activities,” meaning everything through which we experience and interact with the material world. By understanding these components, we can begin to recognize that the true self exists beyond the body and its constantly changing experiences.

Our Interpretation

We often define ourselves by our thoughts, emotions, appearance, desires, and experiences. This reminds us that all of these are parts of what we experience, but they do not completely define who we are. Our emotions and circumstances will constantly change, but the deeper self remains beyond them. Understanding this can help us become less controlled by temporary feelings and more aware of who we truly are.
